It pays to be old! Be sure to ask about a senior discount everywhere you go. Most places won’t offer, and it costs you nothing to ask. I have seen shirts and ball caps that have the phrase ‘Give me my senior discount”, but don’t depend on people reading that – ask anyway.

Here are some discounts we know of, coming up in June 2017:

June 2 – Friday

Heard Museum – All ages; 6 – 10 pm.  The museum is free from 6 – 10 pm the first Friday of every month (regular admission $18/person).

Phoenix Art Museum– All ages; 6 – 10 pm.  The museum is free from 6 – 10 pm the first Friday of every month (regular admission $18/person).

June 4 – Sunday

Arizona Science Center – 62+ – 600 E. Washington Street; Phoenix 85004; First Sunday free for seniors 62+ bring ID proof of age; (regular admission $18/person)

June 6 -Tuesday

Walgreens – 55+ or AARP member

First Tuesday of each month, Walgreens offers a 20% discount to seniors 55+ or AARP members. Discount is valid on regularly-priced merchandise and some restrictions apply. Check their website. While you’re there, be sure to sign up for their weekly deals.

June 7 Wednesday

Kroger/Frys/King Soopers – 55+

First Wednesday of each month, Kroger brand stores offer a 10% discount to seniors 55+.

Safeway & Albertsons usually provide a 10% senior discount on this day but I could not find a specific store link stating this.

June 13 – Tuesday

Desert Botanical Gardens – All ages – 1201 N Galvin Parkway; Phoenix; 85008;  Second Tuesday of every month, 8 am – 8 pm; Accessibility – wheelchairs Free, electric scooters $35 ($30 for members) (regular admission $24.95/person)

June 28 Wednesday

Mesa Public Library, Dobson Ranch – Adults – Adult Coloring Club; 2425 S. Dobson Road; Mesa; 85202; 6pm – 7:30pm. Colored pencils, markers and adult-appropriate coloring sheets provided or you may bring your own.


Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art – All ages; 7374 East Second Street; Scottsdale 85251; free admission every Thursday noon – 9pm;   (regular admission $10.00/person)


Phoenix Zoo -455 N. Galvin Parkway; Phoenix; 85008; regular admission $24.95; Senior (60+) discounted $5.00 ($19.95);

Museums for All – Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Program – $3.00 — If you are 18 or older and have a current Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card through SNAP or TANF, the Phoenix Zoo offers you and up to three other individuals, $3 general daytime admission per person. Current EBT card and a valid photo ID must be presented at time of purchase of general daytime admission. Valid only for qualified individuals and up to three other individuals, attending the Zoo at the same time. Cannot be used for separate ticketed events. Valid only during regular daytime Zoo hours.* Can only be used on the date tickets are purchased at the Zoo. Cannot be combined with any other offer/discount or applied to advance or pre-purchased tickets. Admission is NOT transferable, redeemable for cash, or exchangeable for any other products or service.
