Are you looking to volunteer in Gilbert, Arizona? Do you love big horses? You’re in luck! Gilbert, Arizona is home to the non-profit organization, USA Clydesdale Preservation Foundation and they can always use volunteers.

Six Clydesdales reside at the foundation headquarters in Gilbert, Arizona. Each horse gets bathed two times a month, on the second and fourth Saturday. It’s a big job, literally!

Each horse weighs between 1500-1800 pounds and stands 16 – 17 hands high at the withers (what you might think of as the shoulder of the animal). For those unfamiliar with the term “hand”, it’s a common unit of measurement that is used for horses. A “hand” is equal to four inches, so 16 – 17 “hands” equal roughly 64” – 68” or about 5’4” – 5’8” tall. At the shoulders. Like I said, big job!

That’s where you come in! USACPF needs volunteers to help bathe the horses. They need people who don’t mind getting wet. People who want to get up close and personal with these “gentle giants.” No experience is necessary. The people at USA Clydesdale Preservation Foundation cheerfully provide on -the-job training.

Bath sessions are at 8:30 am and 9:30 am on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Two families can be accommodated per session. A $25 donation is requested per family. Wear your summer clothes and tennis shoes (required) and plan on getting wet, having fun, and doing some good! Families and children ages 6 and up are welcome.
